Mediation for Family, Marital or Elder Issues

Divorce, parenting, guardianship and elder issues can be painful and feel overwhelming to all individuals involved. It is our goal to provide creative solutions and identify unifying values which narrow the differences between the parties so that resolution can be reached.

Mediation offers many advantages to litigation. Mediation reduces the costs to all involved in terms of emotional energy, money and time spent in traditional adversarial actions. Mediation fosters communication. It is especially useful in situations that require on-going interaction between the parties.

Mediation allows parties to take control of their own outcomes. With the experience of our attorneys and our team’s background in Social Work, we are trained, impartial facilitators of the mediation process.

Mediation is a private, non-judgmental and confidential process that can help you avoid the public, stressful arena of litigation where judges / strangers decide an outcome. Rather than having opposing lawyers battling in a courtroom, mediation allows the parties to communicate in a stable, structured environment, working together to reach agreement representing their goals.

Mediation has advantages over litigation in that it promotes a more individualized plan to suit the needs of the parents and children involved. Involving parents and their greater input into the final parenting plan equals greater satisfaction with the outcome over a traditionally court mandated outcome. When couples “own” their custody and visitation plan there is a decreased need for costly re-litigation of these issues in the future. Families move forward. Couples move forward. Children have the best chance to heal and thrive with two cooperating parents involved in their lives.

Through mediation, at Crowley & Powis we work in a private and confidential manner at a pace set by our clients. In a divorce or custody situation, mediation takes into account the needs of your family, your children, and your roles as parents. In elder mediation situations, mediation can help your family resolve financial and care issues.

We will guide you through the process from identifying the disputed issues to developing a mediated agreement and all necessary court filing.

Free consultation and evening & weekend appointments are available. We look forward to meeting you and helping you plan and be prepared.
